About us
A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER
I still remember the smell of my mother's and grandmother's silk saree on festival mornings.
The way the gold zari caught the light. The sound of her bangles as she draped it perfectly — every fold, every pleat placed with the quiet confidence of a woman who knew exactly who she was.
I grew up in Nagercoil, a small city in Tamil Nadu where colour is a language, where every celebration is dressed in silk, and where a woman's jewellery tells the story of her family, her pride and her spirit.
Then I moved halfway across the globe, lived in many cities far from home, and finally found my place in Australia.
THE ACHE OF DISTANCE
Building a career in IT in Melbourne was everything I had worked for. But somewhere between the meetings and the milestones, I felt it — that quiet ache of a woman far from home.
I missed the markets. I missed the festivals. I missed the feeling of wearing something that said — without words — this is who I am. This is where I come from.
I looked for it here. I really did.
But what I found was pale imitations. Overpriced, mass-produced, nothing that carried the soul of the real thing.
So I decided to do something about it.
WHY I STARTED SIMPLY INDIA
Simply India was born on a kitchen table in Melbourne, built by a woman with a laptop, a dream, and a deep love for the culture that made her.
The name says it all. No frills. No pretence. Just India — its silk, its craft, its colour, its soul — brought simply and authentically to your door in Australia.
Because when I started speaking to other Indian women here — doctors, teachers, mothers, students — I heard the same story over and over again. They wanted to feel beautiful. They wanted to feel connected. They wanted something real.
And they wanted it to mean something.
So I made a promise. Every piece we sell will be authentic. Every rupee we earn will give back. And every woman who shops with us will feel seen, celebrated and proud.
THE WOMEN BEHIND EVERY PIECE
When you hold one of our sarees, you are holding the work of a woman's hands.
Our pieces are sourced directly from women weavers and artisans across India — in the silk districts of Varanasi, the block-print villages of Rajasthan, the temple jewellery makers of Tamil Nadu, and the brass craftswomen of South India. Women who wake before sunrise and work with breathtaking skill, often earning less than they deserve for art that takes a lifetime to master.
When you buy from Simply India, you are not just buying a saree.
You are paying a woman in India for her craft. You are telling her that what she makes matters. You are part of a chain of dignity that stretches from her hands to your home.
That means everything to us.
STANDING UP FOR WOMEN
We believe in women. Fiercely.
A portion of every single sale goes toward women's welfare and empowerment programs in India, and to UNICEF India — because real change starts with girls staying in school and growing into the women India and the world needs.
We are not a charity. We are a business. But we are a business with a heart, and we will never forget that.
